Gulab Jamun
GULAB JAMUN |
Ingredients:
- Milk Powder - 1 Cup
- All-Purpose Flour - 1/4 Cup
- Ghee - 1/4 Cup
- Baking Soda - A Pinch
- Milk - 1/4 Cup
- Oil or Ghee (For Frying)
For the Sugar Syrup:
- Sugar - 1 Cup
- Water - 1 Cup
- Cardamom Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
- A Few Saffron Strands (Optional)
Instructions:
Step 1:
In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, flour, ghee and a pinch of baking soda. Mix them well.
Step 2:
Add the milk gradually and kneed the mixture into a smooth, soft dough. You can add a little more milk if needed.
Step 3:
Divide the dough into small, equal-sized portions and roll them into smooth balls. Make sure there are no cracks in the balls.
Step 4:
Heat oil or ghee in a pan for frying over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, reduce the heat to low-medium and carefully add the dough balls.
Step 5:
Fry the dough balls on low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown. This might take about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6:
While the Gulab jamuns are frying, prepare the sugar syrup. In a separate saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring it to a boil, and then simmer for 5-7 minutes until the syrup thickens slightly. Add cardamom powder and saffron strands (if using).
Step 7:
Once the Gulab jamuns are golden brown, remove them from the oil and drain on a paper towel.
Step 8:
Immediately transfer the hot fried Gulab jamuns into the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 2-3 hours so that they absorb the syrup and become soft and sweet.
Step 9:
Your Gulab jamuns are ready to be served. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature.
